Following Doug Ford’s state-of-emergency announcement on January 12th, residential evictions have been put on hold for the second time amid the Coronavirus pandemic. Ontario’s municipal affair’s minister explained that this pause will allow everyone to remain safely in their residence.

The province encourages all tenants who are able to pay their rent to continue to do so, although many individuals have struggled financially this year due to COVID-19. The Landlord and Tenant Board are still taking eviction applications, however the enforcement of eviction orders will be postponed with the exception of those filed for illegal activity.

The provincial government hopes that by allowing everyone to remain in their place of residence, even amid eviction applications, the COVID-19 numbers will slowly decrease.
